Motorcycle and Motorbike Insurance Quotes for Haynesville, Homer and Shreveport, LA

Whether you have a motorcycle, moped or motorbike, and whether you ride to work or for fun, you know accidents, injuries, vandalism and thefts can happen. If your bike was stolen, what would it cost to replace it? If you had an accident and caused injury to another person who then sued you, would you have the financial resources needed for your legal defense?

Just like auto owners, motorcycle and motorbike owners need to think carefully about their risks and the coverage they need to protect their property investment and financial well-being. Request a free motorcycle or motorbike quote or call one of our offices today to get started.

What Are the Insurance Requirements for Motorcycles and Mopeds?

Most states have minimums for moped and motorcycle liability insurance. Here in Louisiana, you must have at least a minimum amount of bodily injury and property damage insurance to register a motorcycle or moped. These minimum coverage amounts are:

  • $15,000 for bodily injury to one person in a single accident
  • $30,000 for body injury per accident
  • $25,000 for damage to another person’s property

In order to register your motorcycle or moped and ride legally, you must obtain motorcycle insurance and provide a proof of that insurance to the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles. One of our agents can help you to determine the amount of insurance that is appropriate for you and provide a proof of insurance certificate to carry with you.

What Are the Insurance Requirements for Motorbikes?

You are not required to insure your dirt bike or motocross bike. But this does not mean that riding without insurance is a wise idea. You can still be hurt, and you can still cause harm to others and their property. You can also be the victim of motorbike theft, with little recourse to recover or replace your missing property.

When shopping for motorbike insurance quotes, consider the following:

  • How often you will ride (for weekend fun or on a daily work commute?)
  • Where you will ride (smooth roads or dangerous paths with switch backs, steep hills and blind curves?)
  • Whether you will allow passengers on your bike, and whether you will lend your bike to other riders
  • The replacement value of your bike, including any after-market gear and accessories you have added
  • Any other equipment, such as a trailer for hauling your bike, you want to insure against damage or loss

Asking questions such as these can help you think about how and when you might be at risk of injuries to yourself and others. It is important to think about the cost of replacement if your bike and other equipment should be stolen or destroyed in a collision, and what insurance protection you need.

A McInnis Insurance agent can help you think through these details and assess the level of coverage that is appropriate for your situation. Your agent will research motorbike insurance quotes, seek bundled policies with your car and other vehicles such as an RV or boat, and help you make an educated decision.
