McInnis Insurance Agency was founded in 1924 by John L. McInnis, along with two partners, who were later bought out. In December of 1945, Mr. McInnis died and left the agency to his two sons, Harry (just back from serving in the war with the Navy) and John, Jr. (an engineer with Dupont). The two brothers managed the insurance agency together until 1948, at which time they founded McInnis Brothers Construction, a general contracting firm. John McInnis, Jr. devoted his time to the construction company, while Harry ran the insurance agency. Both companies still share office space today.

In 1973, Harry's son, Philip, joined his father in the agency after obtaining his Master's degree in Business Administration from LSU. Today, Philip is President of the agency while his father continues to serve in an advisory capacity as well as remain active on a daily basis in the construction company.

Through its 75 years of serving the people of Northwest Louisiana with their insurance needs, McInnis Insurance has remained a stable force in the industry and has expanded through two agency acquisitions within the last 10 years. In 1992, the agency acquired the Holtzclaw & Associates agency of Minden which included a branch in Homer, Louisiana. On January 1, 1994, the agency acquired the Jim Branch Insurance Agency which also included a branch office, this one located in Ringgold, Louisiana. Along with these agency purchases came several experienced personal lines customer service representatives who remain with McInnis Insurance today. Several additional companies were added to the list of companies already in the agency at the time and gives McInnis Insurance the greatest choice of companies of any independent agent in the area.
